On October 28, economic, philanthropic, institutional, and community leaders launched the independent Outaouais Climate Partnership (PCO).
Jessy Desjardins, Vice-President of Development and Design at Brigil, enthusiastically accepted a position on the PCO mobilization committee.
He expressed his support for the initiative:
“I am extremely excited to participate in the PCO and contribute to the planning of our territory. Our city has been built by isolating each neighborhood with large highways and boulevards such as Allumettière, Maisonneuve, and Highway 50, which pass through downtown, fracturing our living and natural environments. It is essential to create easily navigable connections for pedestrians and cyclists, day and night, across all neighborhoods of Gatineau’s urban perimeter.”
“Thanks to a 56% reduction in emissions since 1990, the residential sector now accounts for 4.1% of greenhouse gases, while road transportation still represents 33.5% of emissions, according to Quebec’s Greenhouse Gas Inventory,” added Jessy Desjardins.
“Parking dependency adds 10 to 20% of concrete, the most polluting material, and costs between $50,000 and $100,000 per parking space, which translates to $200 to $500 in monthly rent. Meanwhile, a car costs its owner $10,000 per year, and Quebecers collectively spend $52 billion in the automotive industry, according to an article in La Presse,” he concluded.
