Spending just two hours per week in green spaces—local parks or other natural environments—makes you significantly more likely to report good health and feel psychologically well compared with those who don’t.
This finding comes from a study by the European Centre for Environment and Human Health at the University of Exeter, which surveyed 20,000 people. It arrives at a time when many citizens spend too much time in urban settings, trapped amid noise, pollution, stress, and limited space. The desire to escape is therefore fully justified by the need to breathe fresh air.
Health professionals observe that the benefits of nature on humans are numerous. Being in contact with nature:
A healthy mind, a healthy body
Nature acts as an antidote to stress: it can calm the nervous system, strengthen immune function, boost self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood. It also helps speed up healing processes.
A recent 2021 study conducted for Sépaq found that spending time in nature reduced feelings of isolation, promoted calm, and improved patients’ moods. It can therefore be concluded that choosing a living environment near nature improves overall well-being.
Living close to nature
Situated along the Ottawa River, Brigil’s Champlain urban village gives residents the opportunity to enjoy all city services while being surrounded by a natural, enchanting setting.
The community is developed on 130 acres of greenery, including 50 acres that have been given to the City of Gatineau to create beautiful parks. Multiple walking trails cross the property, allowing residents to immerse themselves in nature in every season or take a break in one of the picnic areas.
Residents not only enjoy an exceptional quality of life with all services nearby, but also benefit from the physical and psychological advantages of being close to nature.
